PICK, CLICK, GIVE: Applicants can spread the wealth to 333 charities.

What were you doing at midnight on New Year's Eve?

Dancing? Drinking? Toasting and getting kissed?

Then you were not among the hundreds of Alaskans who chose to welcome 2009 with fingers poised over a computer keyboard, eager to apply for the 2009 Permanent Fund dividend.

The application period opened at 12:01 a.m. Thursday and closes March 31.

In the first hour after midnight last year, 807 people filed online applications, according to Deborah Bitney, director of the Permanent Fund Dividend Division. By 2 p.m. last Jan. 1, 10,000 had applied.

By 6:14 p.m., it had ballooned to 26,772.

Daniel Cornwall's Gravatar I filed yesterday and I used pick click give. I was disappointed that the PFD site seemed to only allow a search by judicial district. Then it didn't seem to list the charities in order. Thanks to Pick. Click. Give. I didn't give up till I found the charities it told me had to be on the PFD site.

Aliza Sherman's Gravatar I agree Daniel about a bit of confusion with the listings by Judicial District. I still can't find an easy list or map of Alaska's Judicial Districts other than an enormous PFD file. But I went through every District and Statewide first and then made my choice.

Ken Arndt's Gravatar I did not know about the ability to donate a portion of my PFD when I sent in my application. Can I still do this?
