The mission of the Anchorage Symphony is to engage, inspire and educate the community through the live performance of great music.
How Pick.Click.Give. makes a difference
It’s a powerful moment. The triumphant Pines of Rome, the joyous Beethoven 9, the dramatic Scheherazade, the sublime Afternoon of a Faun or the adventure of In the Hall of the Mountain King.
That moment - that “Aha” moment when someone hears music that changed them. Transported them from daily life – moved, uplifted or inspired - they knew that from that moment on this music would forever be a part of them.
For 70 seasons the Anchorage Symphony has created these powerful moments for our neighbors like you, your friends, family and colleagues. They impact a fifth grader attending a Young People’s Concert with his class. It’s his first visit to the Atwood Concert Hall; he hears the roar of the brass section or feels the rumbling of the timpani - he is enthralled. They impact hundreds in our community who receive free tickets – members of our community who are encouraged and reminded that beyond the turmoil of their current situations, there exists beauty and respite.
Last spring after a Young People’s Concert, we received the following
"I wish you could have seen the students’ faces when they heard the symphony for the first time. Their jaws dropped open, wide-eyed in disbelief to feel the power of music. There was a range of hearing loss from hard-of-hearing to deaf students. They used small cardboard pizza boxes to feel the rhythm. The addition of dancers, stories and audience participation brilliantly held their interest for the entire performance. Thank you for bringing this opportunity and unforgettable experience to them."
Sign Language Interpreter - referring to deaf and hard of hearing students who attended an ASO Young People’s Concert
The Anchorage Symphony Orchestra creates pathways for our community to experience its orchestra through expanded and innovative program offerings, free performances, a variety of education programs, collaborations with diverse artists and organizations, and ticket programs offered to social service agencies. One such agency who provides mental health services to youth recently commented on Facebook to ASO donors, “Thank you for helping us nurture the children in our care when you send them to the symphony. We have found that attending Anchorage Symphony Orchestra performances makes young hearts feel a whole lot better.”
It is our life’s work to inspire, engage and educate our community. Please join us in our mission to share great music and powerful experiences with your neighbors throughout our community.
