The Irish Dance Academy of Alaska is a non-profit organization supporting Alaska's youth. Founded in 1997, our mission is to promote Irish Dance in our community and throughout the state. Our dancers are de-facto ambassadors for the state of Alaska as they compete nationally and internationally. The organization fosters the love of Irish Dance, culture and tradition. The dancers work as teams in presenting the Irish dances they learn. The school promotes team responsibility and consciensis effort of each student to work together to master a dance. The school is active in the community and eager to perform at special events.
How Pick.Click.Give. makes a difference
The school keeps tuition as low as possible to accommodate all students who would like to participate in Irish Dance. We work at fund raising through a Celtic Rendezvous performance set at the Wendy Williamson Theater, on the UAA campus, once a year. We have Irish dresses and costumes for our students to borrow. We use volunteers for repairs required on the dresses. We rent our dance studio, but we are responsible for the continual needed refurbishing of the dance floor, which is done by volunteer labor. We perform at many community events and need to keep the sound system current and operational in order to provide a pleasant performance. The students work hard to perfect their dance performance. The school has been very successful with students starting at age 5 and continuing through high school. The school makes a conscious effort to control costs. We activly participate in community events such as the State Fair, Bear Paw Festival, Highland Games, Kid's Day, Culture Events, Anchorage Folk Festival, and requests from local care facilities.
The Irish Dance Academy of Alaska prides itself on its community outreach and fosters the spirit and love of the dance from the newest beginner to the seasoned champion.
The academy proudly performs under the direction of Noreen Westcott T.C.R.G. and Tony Comerford A.D.C.R.G.
Pick.Click.Give. donations will be used to replace dance dresses as needed as well as provide scholarships for qualified dancers. We are proud to have both male and female Irish dancers participating in our school. The academy has graduated several professional dancers, who started at the school as beginners. Pick.Click.Give. donations will assist with providing a quality Irish Dance program to Anchorage and the surrounding communities.
