The Jr. Iditarod is a sled dog race for mushers ages 14 to 17. Since 1978, the two-day race of approximately 150 miles over a section of the Iditarod trail has served as training grounds for the next generation of dog mushers from Alaska and around the world.
How Pick.Click.Give. makes a difference
The Jr. Iditarod seeks to cultivate the next generation of dog mushers and leaders. Modeled after the Iditarod race from Anchorage to Nome, Jr. Iditarod mushers are independently responsible for all aspects of training, racing, and animal care. Scholarships for college and vocational training are awarded to the top finishers, totaling $20,000 in 2016.
The Jr. Iditarod is a year-round effort 100% supported by volunteers and donations. A team of volunteers including trailbreakers, veterinarians, doctors, pilots, and organizers ensure that the race is a fun, competitive, and rewarding experience for junior mushers. Pick.Click.Give contributions will secure the future of sled dog racing by supporting Jr. Iditarod’s race expenses including trail maintenance, logistics, and insurance fees among others.
