How Pick.Click.Give. makes a difference
Funds donated to Kawerak, Inc. will be used to develop a cultural heritage center for the Bering Strait region. Kawerak's cultural heritage center serves our 20 tribes and members of the Bering Strait region with cultural programs, educational outreach, preservation of cultural heritage collections, and a state-of-the-art facility where everyone can gather to celebrate and share the indigenous cultures, languages and knowledge of Alaska Native peoples of the Bering Strait.
The Center will provide a place for visitors to experience authentic Alaska Native culture from the region, and for people of the 16 non-road-accessible communities of the Bering Strait to connect and engage with visiting scientists, researchers, government agencies, and others investigating the unique social and cultural aspects of this part of the world. Through programs, gatherings and cooperative research ventures, the Center will strengthen pride in indigenous culture in our part of the Arctic and promote learning and strong partnerships throughout the North.
