Ketchikan Humane Society is an all-volunteer organization that relies on foster homes and local donations to fulfill our mission. Our primary mission is to reduce local animal euthanasia rates, improve community education and to help abused and abandoned animals have a second chance to find a permanent loving home.
How Pick.Click.Give. makes a difference
Ketchikan Humane Society (KHS) was founded in 2001 by a group of dedicated locals who wanted to help deal with the chronic over-population of unwanted pets in our community. Since then KHS has rescued, recovered and re-homed over 1,300 animals! We have an amazing group of dedicated foster homes who provide love, understanding, and teaching our foster animals what a normal loving home life is like.
In 2012, due to the large number of unwanted animals being euthanized in the community, KHS decided to expand its mission to include low cost spay/neuter clinics for dogs and cats. Pet owners paid $40 to have their dog or cat spayed or neutered, with Ketchikan Humane Society and the local vet clinics picking up the balance of the cost. In the first two months of 2017 we altered over 50 animals through this program!
In December 2014 we became aware that there were senior citizens on fixed incomes struggling to provide food for their pets. As many of these people have limited social resources and rely on their pets for companionship, we felt it was important to help. Through Senior Services and the generosity of Safeway we arranged to provide monthly deliveries of pet food to 12 seniors in need.
Ketchikan has been incredibly generous to our organization. We thank you for your support and strive every day to meet and exceed your expectations for our organization. We could not do what we do without your compassionate and giving hearts. We are able to help because you believe in us.
