How Pick.Click.Give. makes a difference
Life Alaska provides donor recovery services and tissues for transplantation to Alaskans as well as others in need. Life Alaska recovers human tissue for transplant and provides recipients with an increased life expectancy and quality of life. Life Alaska recently added a birth tissue program that allows mothers to donate their birth tissue to help others heal.
The Family Services programs provides extensive bereavement support, resources and information to Alaskans who have experienced the loss of a loved one. Life Alaska offers all donor families a Gift of Life donor medal in honor and memory of their loved one and also an invitation to participate and create a quilt square to be added to the memory quilts.
The Public Education program provides public and professional education on organ and tissue donation and the Alaska Donor Registry. Life Alaska works collaboratively with all hospitals in the State of Alaska providing education and resources to offer the opportunity of donation to patients. Public education is critical to raising awareness, dispelling myths about donation and encouraging Alaskans to give the gift of life.
The Alaska Donor Registry (www.alaskadonorregistry.org) has grown from 45,000 to over 525,000 in the past 15 years. Due to the success of the Alaska Donor Registry and Life Alaskas committment to maximizing the opportunity for donation for all Alaskans, Alaska has one of the highest per capita donation rates in the nation.
