Valley Charities

About Us

Valley Charities, Inc. (VCI): For nearly 70 years our organization has directly served the residents of the Mat-Su Valley with social service programs and partnership with key stakeholders.
• turn-A-leaf thrift store: Our local thrift stores offer affordable prices and an emergency voucher program supporting financially disadvantaged families and displaced house fire victims.
• Valley Charities Endowment Fund: The focus of the endowment is to distribute mini grants to the community members struggling to complete payments for healthcare bills, car repairs, or other financial challenges. These grants will share the expense to bridge the gap toward paying in full.
• Durable Medical Equipment Lending Program: Since the 1950s our program has saved MatSu Valley residents thousands of dollars in medical expenses. This program is free to Valley residents through a six-month equipment loan agreement.
• Homeless Prevention Program: Beginning in 2012 we partnered with several agencies to provide financial assistance to prevent homelessness by paying rent and utilities for MatSu Valley residents, many living paycheck to paycheck.
• MatSu Reentry Program: This program helps make our community safe by providing ex-offenders ongoing life skills support to become successful citizens.

How Pick.Click.Give. makes a difference

In the mid-1950s a group of passionate community members started doing garage sales. The focus of the garage sale was to support neighbors who were going through tough financial times. The garage sales generated the funds to give out mini grants to individuals and families that were having a difficult time making ends meet. This was the beginning of Valley Charities’ rich Philanthropic history.
The Valley Charities Endowment has a focus of doing the same thing that our originators did. Support our Neighbors through mini grants. Your donation will directly enrich our Endowment now and into the future.
Our plan for the endowment is to provide various degrees of gap support for our community. It could be the individual that has their hours cut significantly and can’t find agency programs to support their financial issue. The endowment may be helping pay a portion of a doctor’s or dental bill. Can you imagine having to make choices between paying for rent, food, or the unexpected car repair? It can be a self-defeating situation for many that live paycheck to paycheck.
Our endowment is fully funded by people like you who are looking for ways to reach out to those individuals and families who are experiencing a tough financial situation and just need a small hand up to remove the barrier.
Our endowment is managed through a partnership with the Alaska Community Foundation. They have been managing its growth and inflation proofing so the endowment’s mini grants will be available far into the future. Again, with support from donors like you sharing your Permant Fund Dividend with our cause positions Valley Charities to offer more support to our community.
Thank you for joining us to support our neighbors now and into the future. Together we can make a positive difference in our community.
