Women In Safe Homes Inc

Our mission is to provide a safe place, advocacy and education for people impacted by domestic violence, stalking, sexual assault and abuse and to assist and empower them as they explore their options in Southern Southeast Alaska. We also promote the elimination of violence through primary prevention and education programs, and engaging community members throughout Southern Southeast.

Funding received from Pick Click Give allows WISH to further its mission of supporting victims and their children by increasing the amount of individualized support each victim receives. WISH staff provides trauma informed care for all individuals utilizing our program whether they are resident in our shelter or receiving day services. Pick Click Give funding increases the number of therapeutic support groups and individualized services WISH can offer.

Pick Click Give funding also supports WISH’s prevention outreach programs in the schools and community. WISH prevention outreach staff work with the local school district on primary prevention activities by providing age appropriate programs to students and training to educators. Last year teachers were trained on warning signs of household violence and tips for interacting and supporting children exposed to domestic violence. Teachers and parents were trained in recognizing signs of abuse and neglect and how to support healthy interactions when working with victims of trauma.

Pick Click Give funding supports shelter advocacy work as well as our prevention outreach programs and allows us to reach more groups and individuals in the community. Pick Click Give funding provides the means for community members to support victims that are healing and also support primary prevention work, so that one day our community can be violence free.
