Alaska Black Caucus

About Us

The Alaska Black Caucus asserts the Constitutional rights of African Americans by: involvement in the decision making processes in the community as a contributing partner with decision-makers and representative bodies affecting the lives and livelihoods of African Americans; actively supporting and working in areas which help to advance the educational, cultural, political, and economic well-being of the African American community; acting as a liaison and coordinating entity for the various minority interests within the community and State; making available accurate and timely information on relevant issues and areas of concern to minority people and their progressive supporters; creating awareness that the struggle to achieve total equality has not yet been achieved; and emphasizing the ever-increasing need for African Americans and minorities to make renewed attempts toward attaining these goals.

How Pick.Click.Give. makes a difference

The Alaska Black Caucus is the premiere organization advocating for the rights and interests of Black Alaskans. ABC was originally founded in 1975 to serve the Anchorage community as a non-profit, bipartisan organization "genuinely concerned with the quality of education for our children and with enhancing the economy and political status of all Black people." We re-founded ABC in 2019 to amplify the voices of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) communities and address disparities in education, justice, health, and economics.

Since our re-founding in 2019 we have successfully organized for equity in education, including renaming East Anchorage High School to Bettye Davis East Anchorage High School and passing Anti-Racism and Instructional Equity policies for the Anchorage School District. We have rallied thousands of community members for events such as the March on Alaska, get-out-the-vote events, protests of injustice, and celebrations of Black excellence such as the Bettye Davis African American Summit.

Your support through Pick.Click.Give helps us continue to organize against injustice and build community for all BIPOC people in Alaska. In 2021 we purchased a building that will become Alaska’s first Equity Center. The Equity Center will be a cultural and economic hub for Black people, people of color, and allies to organize together. It will be a physical space for people who experience the burden of racism in our community – a place to find culturally relevant resources to thrive in all endeavors. By supporting BIPOC students, entrepreneurs, artists, businesses, and community-based organizations, the Equity Center will benefit all Alaskans. Your support will help us make critical upgrades to make the space fully functional, accessible, and energy-efficient. Your support will also help us keep organizing community events such as the Bettye Davis African American Summit, and it will help us keep pushing for justice in policing, education, health, and economics.
