Ketchikan Humane Society

About Us

Ketchikan Humane Society is an all-volunteer organization with no paid staff and no facility. Our primary mission is to reduce local animal euthanasia rates, improve community education and to help abused and abandoned animals have a second chance to find a permanent loving home.

How Pick.Click.Give. makes a difference

Ketchikan Humane Society (KHS) was founded in 2001 by a group of dedicated locals who wanted to help deal with the chronic over-population of unwanted pets in our community. Since then KHS has rescued, recovered and re-homed approximately 2,000 animals!

In 2012, due to the large number of unwanted animals being euthanized in the community, KHS decided to expand its mission to include a Spay Neuter Incentive Program (SNIP) for dogs and cats. Pet owners receive financial assistance to have their dog or cat spayed or neutered with Ketchikan Humane Society and the local vet clinics paying the balance of the cost. Since this program has begun, KHS has, on average, altered 100 pets per year. All of this was funded through donations! Thank you!

In 2023 we approved and funded low-cost spay/neuter services to 97 pets and 8 ferals and helped to promote dozens of animals from the local shelter through social media.

Your unwavering generosity assists many animals live a happy life. Thank you.
