Food Bank of Alaska

About Us

With this core belief and a commitment to preventing good food from being wasted, a small group of Anchorage church and community volunteers organized Food Bank of Alaska in 1979 to serve the entire state. Our role is unique. Food Bank of Alaska works with food industry partners to salvage food that would otherwise go to waste from grocery stores, wholesalers, producers, farmers, and the fishing industry. We also collect food donated by community members and administer government food programs. With your help we distributed more than 11 million pounds of food through June 2021. This is a 2,056,177-pound (23%) increase over last year. This was shipped statewide to 150 partner food pantries, soup kitchens, senior centers, and children’s programs feeding their hungry neighbors. Currently 1 in 8 Alaskans, including 1 in 6 children, struggles with hunger. Your generosity makes it possible for Food Bank of Alaska to feed hungry children, families and seniors.

How Pick.Click.Give. makes a difference

You will fill many plates for Alaskan children, families and seniors when you make a gift of $25 or more to Food Bank of Alaska through Pick.Click.Give. When you donate to Food Bank of Alaska, you also support our 150+ partner food pantry and meal programs from Beans Cafe to the Native Village of Point Lay. You and other Alaskans made it possible for us to distribute enough food statewide last year for 7.5 million meals!

More than 95,000 Alaskans worry about where their next meal is coming from, and this number includes 1 in 6 children. In addition to supplying our partner food pantries and meal programs in Southcentral and more than 60 rural communities, Food Bank of Alaska also provides 150,000 meals a year to children statewide and food boxes for seniors. We take our Mobile Food Pantry to Anchorage neighborhoods five times every week.

Food Bank of Alaska prevents food waste by collecting surplus food from grocery stores, wholesalers, producers, farmers, and the fishing industry. We also administer government food programs and purchase food, using financial donations from the community, to add nutrition and variety when food donations are low. 30% of Food Bank of Alaska's budget is the result of donations from community members like you. We also appreciate food donations from individuals and community food drives. Visit www.foodbankofalaska.org if you would like to organize a food drive or volunteer.
