Lutheran Social Services of Alaska provides hope by responding to human need through programs that sustain and transform lives

Lutheran Social Services of Alaska is a non-profit social service agency providing aid to low-income individuals and families throughout Alaska. Located in midtown Anchorage, our office and food pantry serve hundreds of clients every week. Many of our clients live in desperate conditions: some have to make choices between heating their homes or paying for life-sustaining medications, many do not have the funds to purchase enough food, some have no roof over their head, and others suffer from substance abuse, medical issues, or mental health issues. As a partner of the United Way of Anchorage, we gain the opportunity to join with other agencies in addressing urgent human needs throughout the state of Alaska. We are also a member of the Lutheran Services in America, one of largest health and human service organization networks in the nation. In addition, we are supported by the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, Alaska Synod, the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, Northwest District of the LC-MS and many caring and concerned congregations and individuals throughout the state and country.

LSSA provides Alaska with many programs including: transportation to medical appointments, a transitional living program for homeless men, a long-term residential living facility for clients with long-term behavioral health issues, a voucher program for state ID/birth certificates/clothing, a food pantry and mobile food pantry, and the Listening Post and assistance for stranded rural Alaskans in Anchorage for medical or substance abuse treatment.

LSSA also participates in collaborative projects with community partners in Anchorage such HUGSS(Help Us Give School Supplies), Thanksgiving Blessing and Neighborhood Gift.
