We are pleased to open applications for the third year of the PFD Charitable Contributions Program

This law continues to provide an unprecedented opportunity to raise the level of awareness throughout Alaska about the power of individual giving, while providing a new opportunity for every Alaskan receiving a PFD to consider using it in a charitable way. Our continued hope is that this program will not only help grow the number of new donors in Alaska, but also expand giving options for existing donors.

In order to make sure that every organization that is thinking about applying has all the necessary information, we have put together this document to answer the most frequently asked questions about the Charitable Contributions Program. Please be aware that new requirements have been added to the application and new questions and answers have been added to the FAQ this year. Please read the application and the FAQ sheet carefully.

In order to qualify to be placed on the 2011 PFD application, the application and all supporting documentation, in hard copy, must be mailed and postmarked by June 15, 2010. This bears repeating:

* The completed application MUST BE SUBMITTED BY MAIL and POSTMARKED BY JUNE 15, 2010 *

We strongly encourage you to submit your application along with the supporting documentation and payment early

Last year many organizations needed assistance with their paperwork after they had filed and it was this assistance that eventually led to most applicants receiving approval of their applications. If your organization application is received by May 31, 2010, you will be notified of any missing information or problems and given a chance to correct those issues. If the application comes in between May 31 and the deadline of June 15, 2010, there simply may NOT be enough time to allow for corrections and still meet the deadline for listing on the application.

Please start by reading the FAQ sheet, then, fill out the application today and gather all your supporting documents in hard copy. We cannot stress enough the importance of sending in your application packet early. The complete application must be postmarked by June 15, 2010.

We understand that under the law not every nonprofit in Alaska will qualify for inclusion in this three-year program. However, we see the many positive ways this program can raise the level of conversation about giving in Alaska. The law provides a unique opportunity to give, and Alaskans should continue to donate to the organizations of their choice through every meaningful way they can. We hope you will join us in supporting this important step in growing individual giving in Alaska.
