Alaskans Making a Big Difference by Sharing a Little of Their PFDs

ANCHORAGE – January 23, 2012 – The annual Pick.Click.Give. campaign reached an important milestone this week. Alaska residents have pledged over $1 million dollars to nonprofits throughout the state. As of 6 a.m. this morning, $1,033,200 had been pledged by 11,662 Alaskans who have filed for their Permanent Fund Dividends.

This year, there are 471 Alaska nonprofits in 48 communities across the state eligible to receive contributions through Pick.Click.Give. The organizations assist Alaskans in a number of ways, such as those that provide emergency food and shelter, to nonprofits that combat disease and illness. Alaskans can give as little as $25 to as many organizations as they would like to support and 100% of the contributions goes directly to the nonprofits.

“Pick.Click.Give. is a safe, easy way to share a little of your dividend with an Alaskan nonprofit who is making a difference in your community.” said Pick.Click.Give. Program Manager Heather Beaty. “Whether it’s supporting families who have suffered from domestic violence or providing healthy after-school activities for youth, Alaskans are helping the causes they care about by sharing a little of their PFDs.”

If this year’s filing trends continue, Pick.Click.Give. could raise over $2 million for Alaska nonprofits. In 2012, an average of 4.2% of Alaskans who filed for their PFDs donated through Pick.Click.Give. The participation rate is up slightly this year, with an average of 4.7% of PFD filers electing to Pick.Click.Give.

“Our research shows up to 15% of Alaskans are interested sharing part of their dividend through Pick.Click.Give,” said Ms. Beaty. “There’s room to grow, and we hope to see even more Alaskans choosing to make a difference with Pick.Click.Give. this year”

The Permanent Fund Dividend filing period opened January 1 and runs through March 31. Alaskans who have already filed still have the opportunity to log into their PFD application and add a contribution through Pick.Click.Give.
