More Participation Results in Pledges Totaling $3.3 Million

Anchorage, Alaska – Alaskans really DO #Lovalaska! As the filing deadline for this year’s Permanent Fund Dividend (PFD) came to a close, a record 6.1 percent of Alaskans who filed chose to share their PFD with their favorite nonprofit causes. A total of 33,421 individuals made 53,851 pledges totaling $3,329,575, also a record. The Alaska Department of Revenue (DOR) received 552,260 applications for the PFD. In comparison, last year DOR received 558,175 applications and 26,773 individuals made 33,570 Pick.Click.Give. pledges, totaling $2,771,400.

“We are thrilled with the support Alaskans have shown this year and want to say thanks to every one of you who chose to #Lovalaska,” said Kathy Day, interim program director. “We saw a 25 percent increase in donors and a 20 percent increase in the amount of money raised through Pick.Click.Give. compared to last year. “

The Pick.Click.Give. charitable giving program allows Alaskans to donate $25 or more from their PFD to one or more of 540 eligible nonprofit organizations. The program began in 2008 and has grown steadily. The first year, about 1 percent of filers chose to donate through the program. Participation has risen steadily over the last six years to 4.8 percent in 2014.

Although the deadline to apply for the 2015 PFD has passed, Alaskans who have already filed can add Pick.Click.Give. donations through August 31, 2015. All participants, regardless of contribution level, will be entered into the Double Your Dividend Sweepstakes, which will award a second dividend to ten donors. The lucky winners will be announced in September.
