About Us

To transform the power of Alaska's history, culture and education into positive change for the future, the Friends membership supports the Alaska State Library, Archives and Museum in preserving and disseminating knowledge about Alaska's diverse people, history, culture and natural resources. We celebrate Alaska's past and present to inspire a positive future.

How Pick.Click.Give. makes a difference

With your donation, the Friends, in partnership with the Alaska State Library, Archives and Museum,
• Educates through workshops, lectures, activities, events, newsletters and promotional materials
• Expands statewide collections through acquisition of art, photos, artifacts and documents
• Hosts free First Friday exhibit receptions, artist demonstrations, lectures, musical performances and other events
• Advocates for continued legislative and community support of the Alaska State Library, Archives and Museum, including funding for statewide library and museum services
• Offers the Ethel Montgomery scholarship for Alaska Native students pursuing library or museum studies
• Encourages donations, grants and legacy planned-giving as a nonprofit, tax-exempt organization directed by an unpaid volunteer board
• Supports the Alaska State Library, Archives and Museum, which promotes and coordinates library and museum services throughout Alaska; safeguards government records and collects, preserves and exhibits Alaska’s diverse cultural and natural heritage
