About Us
Our mission is to change lives through literacy! We provide adult basic education and English as a second language. 250 adults each year are taking classes or enrolling in one-on-one tutoring. Adults are preparing for higher education, employment, and citizenship. We run an after school program year round for at risk youth which includes reading, writing, match, and homework help. We also help with special reading programs like Guys and Gals Read, A Bookcase for Every Child, and cross age tutoring. Book recycling programs provide over 25,000 books annually for people throughout Alaska. LCA staff and volunteers have been changing lives through literacy for over 40 years here in Alaska.
