NINE STAR'S NET-TO-LADDER HOMELESS PREVENTION PROJECT
Increasing educational attainment and going to work not only strengthens the individual and their families, but it also strengthens the economy and well-being of our community. Because Nine Star came into contact with so many neighbors who were not eligible for publicly-funded services, but who were on the brink of homelessness and/or the need for financial support and jobs, the Net-to-Ladder Project was born. The ultimate goal is to “catch” Alaskans before they become homeless and help them “climb” the career ladder to economic self-sufficiency. For $39 per job seeker and with a $53,500 budget, the following outcomes were reached:
- 166 job seekers who were ineligible for ATAP (public assistance) received job readiness services
- 127 got jobs (77%)
- 1,221 community job seekers desperate for employment received job readiness services
- 599 became employed that we were able to track with limited resources (49%)
- 1,387 received job-ready services, i.e., resume writing, interviewing skills, job search skills, etc.
- 726 Employed Alaskans now have a greater chance of avoiding poverty & homelessness (52%).
