How Pick.Click.Give. makes a difference
PCG funds are used to advance our primary mission of providing "Real Learning in the Real World", for students of all ages. Many of our programs are designed to be inter-generational, and promote healthy family relationships and positive connections to community. Visit our website (northernsusitnainstitute.org) or call 907-733-7111 for more details.
Thanks to the generous support of many people and organizations, we successfully completed our capital campaign to purchase our property, and have focused our attention on strengthening our programs and the developing a dynamic community center for hands-on, place-based learning.
PCG funds help support all of our programs. We offer a variety of Alaska Folk School classes, youth summer camps focused on leadership development and a connection to the outdoors, the "Questing: Building Community Connections" course, the ever-popular annual Cardboard Boat Regatta, and provide accredited high school programs for young adults. In the fall of 2017, NSI will also begin hosting an AmeriCorps member to provide programming for local 12-18 year olds.
In addition to our own programming, Northern Susitna Institute serves as a community center for a variety of events throughout the year, such as courses in Swiftwater Rescue and Wilderness First Responder. We’ve hosted ski waxing clinics, yoga retreats, theater and music rehearsals, puppy classes, wedding receptions, memorials, grant-writing workshops, and non-profit trainings.
Through the efforts of our part-time staff, the dedication of the board of directors and our many wonderful volunteers, NSI has taken a major step toward creating a dynamic educational center in Talkeetna. PCG funds will support the expansion of future programming.
