How Pick.Click.Give. makes a difference
Donations from our generous Pick.Click.Give supporters assist Opera Fairbanks in continuing to provide opera experiences to Alaskans. Our 2019 Season features a mainstage production of Verdis masterpiece FALSTAFF, featuring local and international vocalists, as well as dancers from the North Star Ballet.
2019 will also feature an exciting new production of Mozarts THE IMPRESARIO as well as the continuation of our OPERA ALASKA initiative to include the provision of age-appropriate opera books and recordings to over 100 schools in Interior Alaska. 2019 continues our Tickets for Troops program, where complimentary tickets to our productions are provided to active-duty military and veterans.
January 2019 saw a cabaret-style production of Leonard Bernsteins TROUBLE IN TAHITI come to live on a made-for-the-occasion stage and set within the Vivlamore Event Center, complete with chamber orchestra.
Our 2020 Season will include a mainstage production of THE TALES OF HOFFMANN, our soon-to-be-named Aria Composition Competition, and a performance of SOME ENCHANTED EVENING at the 2020 Opera Ball.
Opera Fairbanks hires a combination of Alaska performers, Directors, Conductors, and technical crew, with varying numbers of visiting guest artists/production personnel per show. Since our first performances in 2007, we have mounted more than 33 different productions.
Opera Fairbanks provides hands-on, paid professional experience to our Apprentice Artists, primarily UAF vocal students who have been chosen by Artistic Director Gregory Buchalter via audition. Apprentices are cast in suitable roles, given the opportunity to understudy roles, receive free registration to Opera Fairbanks workshops/classes, receive tuition assistance to summer vocal study programs, and receive one-on-one, individualized training with our guest artists.
Since fall of 2015 we have been developing our Opera Alaska initiative, working on plans to tour performances around Alaska, increasing
collaboration with other arts companies, seeking out new works (including a composition competition), and providing opera materials (recordings and printed) to school and public libraries throughout Alaska.
