About Us

The mission of STAR is to provide the best quality of crisis intervention, education and advocacy services to victims of sexual assault and sexual abuse, their families and our community.

How Pick.Click.Give. makes a difference

Pick.Click.Give. helps STAR provide 24 hour crisis intervention services, therapeutic counseling, legal advocacy and support groups for those in our community impacted by sexual violence.
These funds help STAR create and sustain innovative prevention programming like the HEART Parenting Class, which helps adult caregivers keep their children safe from sexual abuse. It also helps pay for our staff to be Instructors for Green Dot bystander intervention training.
Our educators provide personal safety presentations to children, focusing on Kindergarten through 6th Grades. On average, STAR educates nearly 12,000 students in the Anchorage School District annually. STAR also provides training to the community on Mandated Reporting, Healthy Relationships, Sexual Assault and Consent, Sexual Harassment and various other topics.
STAR employs a trauma-focused counselor full time to work with individuals who have experienced sexual assault or abuse. This counselor has received training in EMDR, a treatment proven to effectively reduce trauma's effects and increase coping and resiliency.
STAR has been specializing in helping Alaska survivors of sexual violence for over 35 years. We could not provide the comprehensive services we do without the ongoing support of our community and our great state.
