How Pick.Click.Give. makes a difference
Donations to Kenai Peninsula College are vital to ensure that we can continue to provide the high quality education and training we are known for. KPC works hard to find alternative funding sources to supplement the state funding appropriated by the state of Alaska to the University of Alaska. Many donations are directed toward student scholarships or endowed scholarships that fund scholarships in perpetuity from investment dollars generated. Some donors designate that their contributions be directed toward specific academic programs, funding for tutors or literacy and developmental education programs. Other areas that donations support are special programs sponsored by the college such as the Kachemak Bay Writers' Conference, Kenai Fishing Academy, Semester by the Bay, Youth Job Training, Youth for Understanding International Student Exchange and the KPC Showcase Humanities Series. KPC has Learning Centers at both the Kenai River and Kachemak Bay campuses that provide GED tutoring/testing and adult basic education and both rely heavily on grants and donations in order to provide for staffing and learning resources. Donations can also be directed toward faculty and staff professional development activities and conferences to ensure that they are keeping up with the latest technology and processes that ensure the maximum benefit to students and the institution. KPC's libraries also benefit greatly from donations that help them purchase books, online database subscriptions and other reference materials. Some departments require constant upgrading of equipment to ensure students are receiving the most relevant education possible. KPC's paramedic and nursing programs are great examples of degree programs that require constant equipment evaluation and donations help support these types of purchases. Complex human body simulators enable instructors to present complex metabolic scenarios to students that help them gain skills that they couldn't master any other way short of practicing on patients. Students in KPC's welding department are supplied with positive pressure, fresh air hoods that prevent them from inhaling fumes generated as they learn the art of welding. The hoods require periodic upgrades and replacing to ensure they are adequately protecting the students and donations can help make sure of this. And finally, having donations support unrestricted funds for areas of greatest need can really help the college with unforeseen expenses. KPC thanks you!
