About Us
The mission of Haines Huts and Trails (HHATs) is to foster wilderness experiences in some of our region’s most inspiring locations by developing and maintaining public use backcountry cabins and trails. Since formation as a 501c3 organization in 2018, HHATs has been working to become the trusted expert in planning, fundraising, and building public recreational opportunities in Haines. Our first project, Tukga-Hut, is nearing final completion. This is the first public use cabin in the Chilkat Valley. In winter 2024 we will be launching a winter trails program to provide trail grooming in the region to support winter recreation activities. We will also be hiring our first staff member - the Chilkat Valley Outdoor Recreation Coordinator, to start leading coordinated efforts to invigorate and energize recreation planning and activities in our region.
How Pick.Click.Give. makes a difference
We are small non-profit located in a small community rural Southeast Alaska. Most of our work is done through dedicated volunteer efforts, from volunteer board leadership, to construction of our public use cabin, grooming of our walking and skiing trails, and trail maintenance on our public trails in the valley. Your gift helps keep our organization offering these services in our community. Your gift helps build outdoor recreation and public access for over 20,000 square kilometers of wild lands and waters in the Chilkat Valley!
