McCarthy Emergency Services

Our mission is saving lives by coordinating EMS response, providing education and supporting area medical and search and rescue volunteers.

McCarthy Emergency Services is a volunteer, community effort focused primarily on improving emergency medical response in the McCarthy-Kennecott area. We work to improve our collective ability to take care of one another during true medical emergencies. We were founded several years ago by community members who were already responding to medical incidents but in a less organized way. We realized if we could provide our community EMS responders with more equipment, training, medical direction and dispatch, we could be more effective. We have a dedicated board of directors who have decades of experience in emergency response and organizational management in Alaska. We are also a dedicated group of volunteer responders who work together to help others during medical emergencies.

We are a small, entirely volunteer nonprofit organization. Your donation goes towards supporting our mission and could support our work by purchasing medical supplies, maintaining equipment and our ambulance, or providing training for our volunteer responders. In 2022, we are planning to build a new medical services building with an ambulance bay; multipurpose space for emergency response supplies, administrative/ educational; and community clinic space. McCarthy, Alaska is a growing rural community with increasing medical service needs. The area we serve not only has a growing resident population but is a premier visitor destination, located in the heart of the nation's largest national park. We are the only organization providing community emergency medical response in our area, which has no local or regional government to support critical emergency services needs. The medical services building would create a place for us to store equipment and supplies, including the ambulance, and coordinate medical response from. The clinic space would eventually be developed and finished to provide a procedure room and space for a local doctor or others to rent and provide medical services for our remote community.
