Alaska Eating Disorders Alliance

About Us

Mission Statement:
The mission of the Alaska Eating Disorders Alliance is to provide help and inspire hope by engaging our diverse communities in education, advocacy, and support for Alaskans affected by eating disorders.

AKEDA was founded in 2019 by two Alaskans who experienced eating disorders in their families and saw the gaps in awareness and services in our state. They came together to ensure that no other Alaskans would need to walk this journey alone as they sought recovery for these debilitating illnesses.

How Pick.Click.Give. makes a difference

Every donation through Pick.Click.Give stays in Alaska to serve Alaskans impacted by these serious illnesses. We do this through a variety of programming areas that include the following:

Education -- About 85% of AKEDA's budget goes towards educational outreach, which includes community events to build awareness of eating disorders, professional development designed to help build capacity within the Alaska healthcare system to treat eating disorders, and outreach to schools to better support students. These services are provided statewide.

Support -- AKEDA provides support groups for those impacted by eating disorders, helps connect individuals with treatment options, and provides 1:1 support to connect individuals, families, and providers with evidence-based resources.

Advocacy -- We are committed to helping create systemic changes that will lead to improved access to treatment, reduced risk factors, improved prevention efforts, and accurate data.

Body Confidence -- AKEDA seeks to help Alaskans develop body confidence, which helps decrease feelings of poor body image. Poor body image is linked with not only eating disorders, but also anxiety, depression, suicidality, self harm, and other mental health challenges.
