Mat Su Trails and Parks Foundation

About Us

The Mat-Su Trails and Parks Foundation (MSTPF) was formed in 2011 by a group of residents and community leaders from the Mat-Su Borough and the Municipality of Anchorage. They could see population growth and the development boom headed to the valley and were concerned that without thoughtful investment in trails, trail easements, and new parklands, the region would lose trail connections and well-loved open space used by the community for recreation. The founding board also saw an opportunity for an organization to advocate for front-country amenities like pocket parks, sidewalks, separated bike paths, and footpaths connecting neighborhoods to schools. Once formed, seed money from the Mat-Su Health Foundation (MSHF), the Mat-Su Borough, and a few significant gifts from individuals helped the MSTPF become a strong community voice for trails and parks and a funding partner for many organizations working to build world-class trails for Mat-Su. Since 2014, MSTPF has provided grant funding to various non-profits and agencies, resulting in over 60 miles of new trails and 12 parks, the purchase of essential trail grooming and maintenance equipment, trail markers, interpretive signage, and necessary trailhead amenities like bathrooms and parking lots.

How Pick.Click.Give. makes a difference

Just imagine a Mat-Su with more multi-day hiking and biking trails, more multi-use winter trails, trailheads with adequate parking, bathrooms, and interpretive signage, more bridge crossings to protect sensitive habitats, and more access to your favorite hunting, fishing, and berry-picking areas. With your support, we can build and maintain the world-class recreational infrastructure the Mat-Su Borough deserves.

We hope you will consider joining us. When you do, you are supporting a future Mat-Su with trail systems in every community, the sustained high quality of life we all enjoy, a robust tourism economy, and the unique and wild environments that we all love.
