About Us
Sitka Legacy Foundation (formerly known as Greater Sitka Legacy Fund) is a local Affiliate of The Alaska Community Foundation. We are building a permanent endowment for Sitka and rural communities on Baranof Island to support local resilience and self-reliance. We are committed to maintaining Sitka as a vital and healthy community where people can live, work, raise families, and retire. We raise funds, make grants, and support local nonprofits. We nurture a local culture of giving by connecting generous members of our community with great causes and options for contributing their time and resources to benefit others.
How Pick.Click.Give. makes a difference
Sitka is a community of people committed to working together. We have a large number of entities dedicated to sustaining our natural and cultural resources and making life better for residents, including our local and tribal governments and non-profit and faith-based organizations. Sitka Legacy Foundation serves as a clearinghouse and convener of nonprofit and other organizations working to improve the community; we are the only organization in Sitka that fulfills this role. We promote giving in Sitka through our community endowment, and by encouraging residents to be generous with their time and resources.
Since we were established in 2013, we have made more than $130,000 in grants to local nonprofit organizations. As our permanent endowment grows through generous local donations and matching contributions from Rasmuson Foundation and The Alaska Community Foundation, we will be able to offer more support for our community.
As an Affiliate of The Alaska Community Foundation, SLF has a local advisory board, and benefits from services and infrastructure provided through ACF's statewide office in Anchorage. This structure allows for efficiency in operations. A part-time program manager and other operating expenses are currently supported through grants from Rasmuson Foundation and ACF. Donations through Pick.Click.Give are directed to our operating endowment, which we are building to support our long-term sustainability.
