About Us
Founded 30 years ago, Mat-Su Concert Band is a 70-member group of amateur musicians, mostly from the Valley. Our mission is enhancing performing arts in the Valley by striving to be the best band in Alaska. Most of us are adults who grew up with a passion for instrumental music and now take time in busy professional lives to keep that passion alive. We rehearse weekly at Teeland Middle School near Wasilla and are proud to play concerts at the new Glenn Massay Theater at Mat-Su College.
How Pick.Click.Give. makes a difference
Donations are a crucial source of funding for our band, the largest and oldest musical organization in the Valley. It costs thousands of dollars to put on each of our four concerts. We know you have many choices when it comes to charitable giving.
Here's where your Pick.Click.Give donations go when you give to Mat-Su Concert Band:
Music: Past selections range from Disney movie soundtracks and Glenn Miller big-band compositions to symphonic classics like 1812 Overture and the Nutcracker Suite.
Full band scores can cost hundreds of dollars.
Venue: Starting in 2015, our performance hall is the best acoustic space in the borough, Glenn Massay Theater at Mat-Su College. Donations help defray the cost of reserving the theater, as well as transporting our percussion instruments and other equipment.
Instruments: A musical organization like ours relies on public support for the purchase of new instruments, or the repair of existing ones. A new English horn can cost $10,000, for example.
The band in 2009 opted to become a nonprofit organization and is run by a nine-member board of directors. We have become established enough to receive grants from numerous respected charitable organizations including Mat-Su Health Foundation, the Alaska State Council on the Arts, Rasmuson Foundation and Matanuska Electric Association's charitable Round Up program.
The Mat-Su deserves to be a place where talented, creative people can gather to make and hear beautiful music. Every donation makes a difference - thank you!
