About Us
Alpine Alternatives' mission is to provide recreational programs for Alaskans with special needs including those who are challenged mentally, physically, emotionally, and/or neurologically as well as individuals with sensory issues who are deaf and/or blind. We strive to assist individuals to develop cognitive, emotional, and physical skills that will give each person a sense of worth, value, and belonging.

How Pick.Click.Give. makes a difference
All funds will be used to continue our programs with quality. Winters are spent skiing the slopes of Hilltop Ski Area, based out of the Alpine Ski Hut. Youth gear up with skis and boots, check in with ski staff and ski buddies, and hit the slopes for learning and fun. This year we hope to be able to add snowboarding lessons to our program. Leisure time in the hut is spent drinking hot cocoa and cider, and reviewing the day’s accomplishments. Laughing, smiling, caring and sharing are all evident with Alpine’s skiers on the hill!

Summertime is Alpine Alternatives’ busiest season. Alpine’s three vans shuttle youth and adults to where the fun is. Over the summer, more than twenty day outings are provided, some including horseback riding at Point McKenzie. Participants hike, visit unique places of interest, participate in hands-on activities, and join in a variety of different and exciting interests. Alpine is blessed with a great group of employees who know how to make even the rainiest of days fun!

Alpine Alternatives may be best known for the four sessions of summer camps it provides for different populations of disabilities. Each session of camp is structured to meet the needs of participating campers including: an ADD/ADHD camp, Camp Abilities (sports camp for blind and visually impaired youth), a camp for those needing partial assistance (non-ambulatory, etc), and a session for older campers.
