Bristol Bay Heritage Land Trust

The Bristol Bay Heritage Land Trust strives to preserve the land and waters of the Bristol Bay region of Alaska that provide the fish and wildlife that support the people who live, work and recreate in Bristol Bay. We do this through direct land conservation, developing low impact economic development opportunities for residents of the region, and providing education programs that promote land and wildlife preservation.

Donations made to the Bristol Bay Heritage support the six strategies the organization pursues to achieve its mission. We call them the PILLARS OF THE LAND TRUST:

LAND PROTECTION: The Bristol Bay Heritage Land Trust works with private land owners to purchase important habitat and subsistence value properties or protects them forever with non-development conservation easements;

EDUCATION: The Bristol Bay Heritage Land Trust provides the foundation for environmental education programs like the Bristol Fly Fishing and Guide Academy that engages the youth of Bristol Bay in conservation and employment opportunities tied to a healthy environment;

HERITAGE: The Bristol Bay Heritage Land Trust promotes awareness of the deep historical and cultural ties people have to Bristol Bay. We do this with such efforts as the collection of traditional place names and the publication of books like "Sailing for Salmon" that celebrates the longevity of the Bristol Bay commercial fishery;

SCIENCE: The Bristol Bay Heritage Land Trust funds scientific research and habitat assessment that enable us to focus our conservation efforts through a better understanding of the natural environment in Bristol Bay;

WATER PROTECTION: The Bristol Bay Heritage Land Trust secures water reservations for fish and anadromous stream safeguards under Alaska law for salmon and all freshwater fish species of Bristol Bay;

ADVOCACY: The Bristol Bay Heritage Land Trust promotes laws and regulations that protect the fish, wildlife and other renewable resources of Bristol Bay.
