About Us
We are a group of dedicated volunteers who work hard at placing unwanted, neglected or relinquished Goldens, Golden mixes and retriever mix breed dogs. We give them a second chance to live in a loving forever home and family. Each surrendered dog is placed in a volunteer foster family home. The foster family home environment is an important part of the rehabilitation process. We want ensure our dogs are prepared to be successful with their new loving family.
How Pick.Click.Give. makes a difference
All members of Golden Retriever Rescue are volunteers who volunteer their time, talents, and resources. All funds received go toward the placement of rescued dogs to a new loving adoptive family. Some of the maintenance costs include dog food, leashes, and dog kennels. There can also be transportation costs such as airfare or fuel to get our dogs to their new family or receive relinquished dogs. Dogs have been turned into us or placed from all parts of Alaska such as Nome, Anchorage, the Kenai Peninsula and many other places. Some dogs will be in foster care for up to four months before the perfect home can be found. We provide the foster family with all of the dog food and whatever else is needed to care for the dog. Each dog receives a full exam by a Veterinary doctor prior to adoption. These exams include spaying or neutering, having their vaccinations brought up to date, and hips x-rayed. If a dog has an illness we pay for all of the medications needed to cure the dog along with the follow-up doctor visits. For puppies we spay or neuter along with providing their first year of shots. Dogs older than 5 years also have additional tests such as blood work to make sure they are healthy prior to placement. Each dog is micro-chipped and tattooed. We also accept special need dogs that have required extensive surgeries to rebuild hips, broken pelvises, and other serious injuries.
