About Us
The Sitka Local Foods Network's mission is to increase the amount of locally produced and harvested food in the diets of the people of Southeast Alaska. We operate the Sitka Farmers Market (started in 2008), grow food at the St. Peter's Fellowship Farm communal garden, a garden education program in the spring, and host the Sitka Food Business Innovation Contest.
How Pick.Click.Give. makes a difference
Pick.Click.Give. funds will be used to support the St. Peter's Fellowship Farm which is a communal garden using sustainable gardening practices and is the primary source of produce for the Sitka Farmers Market (SFM). Second, funds will be used to support the Sitka Farmers Market offering "double-up food bucks" up to $20 per market to SNAP and WIC participants who shop for eligible foods, and other market best practices that help connect Sitkans to healthy, affordable food. Third, the funds help us offer a spring garden education program that provides free or nearly free classes to encourage more Sitka residents to grow their own food. Fourth, the funds help support a Sitka Food Business Innovation Contest that provides start-up funds to local food business entrepreneurs. Finally, these resources will allow the organization to continue to improve the infrastructure of our vibrant organization through development of plans for staffing, fundraising, communications and programming.
