Pick. Click. Give. launches 2011 awareness campaign

ANCHORAGE, December 17, 2010 – A recent survey of Alaskans showed that nearly three-out-of-four residents have heard of Pick. Click. Give., the PFD Charitable Contributions Program. A campaign to educate the remaining quarter begins this week.

Other noteworthy findings from the survey include: 10 percent of Alaskans said they were “very likely” to make a contribution in 2011 through Pick. Click. Give. and, of those who said they gave through Pick Click Give this year, 65 percent said it was because Pick. Click. Give. is easy to use while the remaining 35 percent said it was because “it’s good to contribute.”

Pick. Click. Give. hopes to show the rest of Alaskans that they can make an impact with small gifts. Making an impact with small gifts is, in fact, the focus of this year’s media campaign.

This year’s Pick. Click. Give. statewide outreach campaign is made possible thanks to financial support from the Alaska Mental Health Trust Authority, BP Alaska, ConocoPhillips Alaska, the Mat-Su Health Foundation, the Friends of the Alaska Children’s Trust, Providence Health + Services Alaska, Flint Hills Resources Alaska, and Rasmuson Foundation. Also, providing generous amounts of in-kind support are Alaska Public Radio Network, Coast Alaska and Alaska One public broadcasting, the Alaska Club, and Nerland Agency.

Pick. Click. Give. is coordinated through a partnership including the Permanent Fund Dividend Division of the Alaska Department of Revenue, Rasmuson Foundation, The Foraker Group, the Alaska Giving Coalition, the United Way of Anchorage, and the Alaska Community Foundation.

“The filing period for the Permanent Fund Dividend opens at 12:00:00:00.001 a.m. on 1/1/11, which is the first nanosecond of the New Year,” said Jordan Marshall, Special Projects Manager at Rasmuson Foundation. “Please consider making a gift to help support your community and the causes you care about. Get more from your PFD through Pick. Click. Give.”

Organizations that participated in the 2010 Pick.Click.Give. campaign can now see the total donations they received from generous Alaskans. The list represents roughly 90% of total donations. A second installment will be released in early November. Detailed donation information and a check will be provided to each organization in the coming weeks.

Please trumpet these numbers, thank your donors, tell your stories of impact, post updates on your Facebook pages, Tweet, email your friends, contact your local media. Every chance we get to raise awareness of Pick.Click.Give is an opportunity to increase donations through the program in 2011.

Alaskans Pledge Nearly $1 Million in 2010 Pick. Click. Give. Campaign

More than 9,500 Alaskans give $927,075 through their Permanent Fund Dividend

ANCHORAGE — Preliminary results from the second year of Pick. Click. Give. show that 9,543 individuals supported the causes they care about when they filed online for their 2010 Permanent Fund Dividend. Alaskans made 14,264 donations totaling $927,075 between January 1 and May 31 when the 2010 campaign concluded. These data are nearly double those from last year.

“Thanks to the generosity of thousands of Alaskans, nearly $1 million has been pledged to support nonprofit organizations across the entire state,” said Jordan Marshall, Initiatives & Special Projects Manager at Rasmuson Foundation. “This is an important step toward the goal of increasing personal giving in Alaska.”

The new program, now in its second year, allowed Alaskans filing online for their Permanent Fund Dividend to give all or part of it to qualifying nonprofit organizations, community foundations or campuses of the University of Alaska. Specific organization contribution totals and the final figure will be available in October when dividend checks are determined and disbursed.

The goal of Pick. Click. Give. is to increase the number of people who give to Alaska nonprofits, as well as the total amount of charitable dollars that are donated. The organizations that qualified for the 2010 PFD application represent the diversity of nonprofits around the state.

Promotion of Pick. Click. Give. is made possible through financial support from Rasmuson Foundation, the Alaska Mental Health Trust Authority, ConocoPhillips, BP, and the Mat-Su Health Foundation; and from in-kind support from public broadcasters, The Nerland Agency, and hundreds of Alaska nonprofits. The Alaska Giving Coalition, The Foraker Group and the United Way of Anchorage are working with Rasmuson Foundation and the Department of Revenue PFD Division to implement the program.

ANCHORAGE Alaskans have just five days left to participate in the 2010 Alaska Permanent Fund Dividend (PFD) Charitable Contributions Program, or Pick. Click. Give. Organizers and supporters are making one last appeal for donations by May 31, as the number of donors this year nears 10,000 people and the amount of money raised approaches $1 million.

“Times are tough out there,” said Diane Kaplan, President of Rasmuson Foundation. “I hear every day that many more Alaskans are seeking housing, food support and assistance from our nonprofits. If just 500 more Alaskans logged on to donate, , the Pick. Click. Give. program will have 10,000 donors this year.”

Adding to the momentum, Alaska Gov. Sean Parnell is scheduled to sign Senate Bill 171 into law on Thursday, May 27. “I hope everyone who filed online this year will join Sandy and me in using Pick. Click. Give. to share with others what has been so freely given to us,” said Parnell.

Sponsored by State Sen. Kevin Meyer and amended in the House by Rep. Bill Thomas, Senate Bill 171 contains language that ensures that the charitable contribution option is an ongoing feature of the online Permanent Fund Dividend application.

The Alaska Permanent Fund Dividend Division this year extended the opportunity to donate to one or more of 365 Alaska causes through May 31. Every Alaskan who filed online during the regular PFD application period may now go back to www.pfd.alaska.gov and add a Pick. Click. Give. donation.

This year, 9,500 Alaskans have pledged over $920,000 in donations thus far. That is nearly double from last year when Pick. Click. Give generated $545,000 in pledged donations from over 5,000 donors.

“It is stunning to see this growth in generosity,” said Kaplan. “Alaskans have generated close to $1 million this year. We’re almost there.”
