Pick, Click, Give benefits food bank

Peninsula Clarion

Thank you to the individuals who chose to contribute to the Kenai Peninsula Food Bank via the Pick, Click and Give program. These Alaskans donated a portion of their 2009 Permanent Fund Dividend to help feed hungry Kenai Peninsula residents. The total contribution of $1,875 will help us process a million pounds of food this year at our facility located at the corner of K-Beach and Community College Drive in Soldotna. The Food Bank distributes food throughout the peninsula from Homer to Moose Pass via member agencies such as churches and other nonprofit organizations or directly to clients in addition to operating the Fireweed Diner which offers a hot meal.

In 2010, you too can contribute a portion of your Permanent Fund Dividend to the Kenai Peninsula Food Bank or another approved charitable organization. For more information, visit pickclickgive.org. The Food Bank is very grateful to the Rasmuson Foundation for funding this pilot program and to the Foraker Group and United Way of Anchorage for their assistance and administration.

Thank you for supporting the Kenai Peninsula Food Bank! Please contact me for more information or visit our facility.

Hello 2009 Pick. Click. Give. Organizations

Congratulations! The long wait is over. We are pleased to share with you that in its first year, more than 5,500 Alaskans made pledged more than $545,000 to Alaska nonprofits, community foundations and the university system through Pick. Click. Give., the Permanent Fund Dividend Charitable Contributions Program.

Your check is on the way through the mail and will include the majority of your funds and donor information. A small number of applications are still pending. Any donations made through those applications will be paid out in early January 2010. A list of current contributions to each organization is on the Pick. Click. Give website. Again, specific donor information will be included with your check.

We are thrilled to share the generosity of our fellow Alaskans with you. We strongly encourage you to reach out to your donors as soon as possible- thank them, let them know how their donations help your organization and invite them to become more involved in your mission. Please don’t miss this important opportunity to connect with them.

The Foraker Group and The Alaska Giving Coalition are offering a number of classes to help with ideas for successful donor outreach. Check out the calendar on Foraker Group’s website www.forakergroup.org These classes are free. You can also call me directly if you would like to discuss ideas for successful donor cultivation.

The success of this program relies on your ability to connect to your stakeholders. Thank you for past and future efforts.

PICK. CLICK. GIVE. OPTION ADDS UP TO MORE MONEY TO HELP GOOD CAUSES

Most Alaskans will receive their permanent fund dividends this month. For the more than 5,100 Alaskans that opted to use the new PFD Charitable Contributions ProgramPick. Click. Give.their checks will be a little less. This difference in the amount of their checks translates to more, approximately $545,000 more, in support of nonprofit organizations in Alaska.

The goal of Pick. Click. Give. is to increase the number of individuals who give to Alaska nonprofits, as well as to increase the total amount of charitable dollars given. The program became law last year and allows a safe, secure, easy way for Alaskans who file for their PFD online to donate all or part of their dividend to eligible charitable, educational and nonprofit organizations.

The PFD Charitable Contributions Program began with the 2009 dividend. For that first year qualifying organizations serving the lower Kenai Peninsula includedBirth 2 Three, Boys & Girls Club of the Kenai Peninsula, Bunnell Street Arts Center, Center for Alaskan Coastal Studies, Cook Inletkeeper, Friends of the Homer Library, Homer Council on the Arts, the Homer Foundation, Homer Senior Citizens, Hospice of Homer, Kachemak Bay Family Planning Clinic, KBBI Homer Public Radio, Kenai Peninsula Housing Initiative, Kenai Peninsula United Way, Ninilchik Community Library, Ninilchik Senior Center, Pier One Theatre, Pratt Museum, Project GRAD Kenai Peninsula, South Peninsula Haven House and the Kachemak Bay Campus of Kenai Peninsula College-University of Alaska Anchorage.
